Rise and ShineKenya / Japan

No matter where you are born, or who you are, the chance to shine lies within you.

A music video featuring “watoto furaha × mamas project”. In an environment where it is considered special for girls to be able to go to school, this music video focuses on delivering cloth sanitary pads to girls so they can go to school, even during their periods.
In Kenya, there is the current state of girls having to take from 4 days to up to a week off of school due to their periods every month. This is due to not being able to afford the locally available sanitary pads costing around 100 yen. With this project, in the city of Kisumu, Kenya, by partnering with local NPOs and advising on how to make sanitary pads, the project aims for a system where regardless of who you are, where you were born, you can take steps towards your desired future.
Moreover, locally the initiator of the project, music artist Shiho, created in collaboration a song “Rise and Shine”, with the theme of their own futures that lay ahead of them. As a project member, WORLD FESTIVAL conducted in part the planning and operations, and took charge of the official visuals and music video creation. With the intentions of getting individuals to learn regardless of where you were born, no matter who you are, you can shine and lead a life that is your own. We captured the attractive qualities of all the Japanese individuals who took part in the song creation, and the children of Kenya in this music video.
